These days, you see more and more kids sporting sunglasses on their day out on the beach or in the park. This may seem like an unusual fashion statement for children too young to understand anything. But the real reason why most parents buy kids sunglasses is protection. With the ozone hole and other concerns regarding harmful UV rays, parents are more inclined to pay serious attention to protecting the delicate eyes of their little ones. So, yes, kids sunglasses are important. Of course, it helps that these sunglasses are now available in a wide range of colors, shapes and styles! If you buy the right sunglasses, your kids will love them and you can stay happy that their eyes are well protected.

While buying sunglasses for your children, it is important to remember that fashion, style and looks are not the bottom line. Protection is what matters the most. Buy sunglasses that are large enough to protect the delicate eyes and surrounding area of your child's eyes. If your child is able to peer over the glasses, then you may need a larger frame.

Check whether the sunglasses you select offer enough UV protection. High quality sunglasses are coated for UV protection. • Fit the sunglasses on to the child's face and check to see that they cover the whole eye area and if possible a bit of their cheeks and forehead. This will ensure maximum UV protection even if the kid is bending at an angle. Dust and other particles will also be effectively shielded from getting to the kid's eyes. • Get sunglasses with cable temples (temples that have a hook shape that coils around the back of the ear). This will be more comfortable for the kid as they don't slide or drop when they bend. You should however be very careful with rubber bands and straps if you are dealing with a toddler as they can cause chocking if left unattended.


• Sunglasses frames with spring hinges are the most durable for kids because they can withstand over stretching when the kid is taking them off or putting on.


• Frames for kid's sunglasses should be made of light material to make sure the kid does not feel the load of the sunglasses hence more comfortable in them.


• Always know the material that has been used to make the frames if your child is sensitive to certain materials (some people are allergic to frames with platinum alloys). Alternatively,ask for frames made from hypo-allergic material if your child has any sensitivities.

Decorated sunglasses always attract the attention of kids and make them want to be in them. Get your kids frames with nice decor and colors as vibrant as they want but don't go for those with too much decorations on the lenses. The decoration might interrupt the child's vision and cause eyestrain which can later cause eye problems.
